   EX-VIVO MECHANICAL DIGESTION.

Ex-vivo mechanical digestion of food is my scientific hypothesis, which is observable in food handling process.

Let me break it down to 'readable language'. When we cut, grate, pound or slice food including vegetables and fruits, they undergo break down in their cellular structure, meaning that digestion has already been activated. The smaller the cuts, the greater the degree of mechanical digestion. The finer we pound, grate, or slice the greater the degree of mechanical digestion.

Mechanical digestion leads to:

  •  re-alignment of the cell structure and chemical composition of foods,
  • loss of calories in form of chemical and/or heat energy,
  • nutrient losses, especially photo/light sensitive and heat sensitive nutrients like vitamin C,
  • reduced bioavailability. (the amount of nutrients in the food when the food is whole will be far greater than the amount your body will get when you eventually eat the food).
  • wastage (food and money). mechanical digestion is a nouvelle approach/view to food waste.
I do not suggest not processing food before eating, however as much as can, eat foods as wholesome as possible or with minimal processing, especially for vegetables and fruits. When chopping vegetables it is better to chop to bold slices rather than thin/fine slices.
"Ex-vivo Mechanical Digestion (Ex-vivo MD) is a hypothesis observable in food processing, where digestion of food is activated outside the body by processing methods. I also term it Human Digestion", IfunanyaChukwu.

AS FOR FITNESS-USE YOUR HEAD.

Both ways, figuratively and literally, use your head.
Figuratively, I mean count the cost (gym subscription, hyper-tech devices, designer sports outfits and the works).
Then literally..... use your head,( pan on the head at a construction site, as a daily paid labourer aka kimbom/ kuimbom). Seriously, jokes apart truth be told, these guys make money and they get to pump muscles while doing so. They work their biceps, triceps, quadriceps, gluteals, obliques all muscles. Their nutrition habit is junk-inspired: white bread, carbonated sugary- loaded drinks, high starch pastries, high starch food. They have little regards for protein and vitamin containing foods, it's carbs all the way, yet, I am yet to see a fat fellow among them construction labourers.

Okay, that may be extreme, but you can try these:
1.House chores. Cooking from start to finish, laundry, ironing, mopping. Tips for weight-loss mopping, carry mop bucket on one hand while mopping with the other. Lift bucket in up and down motion like you would do with dumbell.  Switch between both hands.
Save the money you would have paid house keepers, dry cleaners and cook, in a separate account, visit it after one year and WOW.
2. Sanctuary Work. We in Nigeria understand this on another level. Here we don't take it as mere volunteer activity, we believe there are blessings tied to it. So, instead of rushing off to the gym or sports club on saturday mornings, join the Sanctuary unit and get your Church building  cleaned inside out.
3. Evangelism work. Not online, not bus work. House to house, walking some distance in the process. Yes, you could burn a lot of calories doing the most important job on earth. The dividends are priceless.
4. Dancing. The Bible says it all, "A merry heart is medicine ". You achieve physical fitness and good health by dancing. Turn on your favourite play list, and dance for 30 minutes at least three times a week.  Make sure every part of your body is moved some way.

There you are!  Pocket friendly ways of achieving physical fitness. You don't need to become someone else's cash machine to be physically fit.
Did I say no more gyms? Of course not.

Which ever you choose,
Do remember exercise goes with right diet  for a healthy life.

KETONES, KETOGENIC, KETOSIS.

The spotlights have been on keto diet for sometime now, whipping up sentiments and stirring socialmedia frenzy.
The subject of ketones is as old as the study of biochemistry and physiology. Ketones are a type of fatty acids metabolised by the liver from fats in the body. The liver produces ketones when the body is starving, or when the body is receiving very minimal carbohydrate and protein supply. This leads to loss of fat from adipose tissues(weight loss).

Ketogenic diet plan, is a diet plan that involves extreme reduction of carbohydrate intake, restricted proteins, increased fats intake. It comes in various forms, variations and names; Atkins Diet, Paleo Diet, Ketogenic Diet, Spanish Mediterranean Ketogenic Diet, Low Carb Diet, and the likes.

Highly effective in weight loss as it is, there are downsides and contraindications of a keto diet.
If diet is strictly followed for a long time, it leads to loss in bone density and subsequent osteoporosis,(a disease characterised by fragile bones). For menopausal women, osteoporosis comes faster. Also, there is the issue of kidney stones, infertility in some cases and other metabolic hyper reactions that vary from person to person.
However in cases of epilepsy, and some Neuro degenerative diseases, keto diets have proved helpful.
Keto diets put the body system in a state of ketosis which is not the normal metabolic state of the human body. Insulin hormone helps regulate the level of ketone in the body. For people with insulin deficiency there is a risk of keto-acidosis, which is a condition of ketone fatty ACID build up in the blood.
Ketones are fatty acids, they are made up of fats and acid, when they build up in the blood, they become harmful.

To stay safe, build your diet plan to include moderate quantities of wholesome carbohydrates and proteins maybe twice or thrice weekly. Exercise and physical activity are vital for a healthy weight loss and general fitness.
Whatever works for you now, do make sure it is healthy in the long run.
